I’ll begin this post with what was the weather forecast for March 21st, 2015. Much of central Texas was to be blanketed by a large weather pattern out of the Pacific. Nearby areas such as Bastrop were predicted to receive as much as eight inches of rain by some TV stations. So, this was considered a fairly major weather event, but the show must go on. My second shooter Steve and I packed a few changes of clothes, plastic bags and other essentials and hit the road for the Columbus-Schulenburg, TX area.
The locations were mixed and the day went as such: The ladies started off in Columbus, TX at a quaint B-n-B called the Prairie Street Heritage House. The guys got dressed at the bride’s father’s ranch, which is in between Columbus (where we took Jamie’s bridal photos earlier in the month) and Shulenburg and is the location where the reception was held. They even built a special deck in the back of the property just for this occasion. Pretty wonderful stuff. The wedding took place north of Shulenburg at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in High Hill. This is one of the historic Painted Churches in Texas. A beautiful smallish church that reminded me of some from when I visited Germany.
As the day progressed, everyone’s fears of a continued deluge were lessened as the rain let up considerably, especially around the time of the reception. While it made for quite the muddy mess around the grounds, everyone had a wonderful and amazing time and they were even able to spend some time outside of the tented enclosures. One of my favorite moments was getting to record the unearthing of the buried bourbon, a southern wedding tradition as it turns out. You bury a bottle of bourbon upside down one month before the wedding and dig it up the day of. I love it and I think everyone should do this. The irony of this tradition is it supposed to keep the rain away, as Jamie’s father brought to everyone’s attention and laughter.
Enough banter and on to some photos. I want to wish the best to Jamie & Jason as they go forward with their new adventures in life. I would say the best of luck, but I don’t need to as the rain on their wedding already guaranteed that for them.
